Buffering Tips

Ever wonder why videos buffer? Here are some tips I've gathered that can help stop buffering.

-When the video starts, pause it until the video has fully or half fully loaded. As the video is loading, you'll see a gray line. The gray line will get longer as it loads.

-Close all windows that you don't need. Having too many windows open will slow the loading process down.

- Wait until the gray line is either full or half full and then resume the video. Remember, the longer the video, the longer it takes to load. By this time you should be able to enjoy the movie without the video buffering or constantly starting and stopping.

-Make sure the dark line, the spot of the video you're currently at, isn't near the gray line. When the black and gray lines meet up, the video buffers.

Why Do Videos Buffer?

Streaming our videos allow our viewers to avoid waiting to download a large file before seeing the video or hearing the sound. Instead, the media is sent in a continuous stream and is played as it arrives. The compression of the video allows it to be played simultaneously. Depending on the video host and the file's compression rate, the time it takes for the video to stream may vary. The file is hosted on a server which can "multi-cast" the same file to multiple users at the same time. When you click on the video it is partially loaded before you can access it. This is known as "buffering".
